Dates: March 27-31, 2016
This course will be an overview of every step in creating a luminous in-direct portrait painting form life.
LaRock will demonstrate the process each day while thoroughly discussing the observational, technical and conceptual ideas at hand. He will focus instruction throughout on creating the illusion of three-dimensional form as the foundational and distinctive attribute essential to good work. This method is distinct from the alla-prima, or wet-in-wet, method of oil painting and can therefore achieve certain effects by the use of semi-transparent layers of paint. The workshop will begin by drawing and rendering the portrait in graphite, moving on to various methods of underpainting, building up the form, and finishing through glazing and scumbling.
