2 Day Figure Drawing Fundamentals Workshop:
Saturday and Sunday November 16 & 17, 2013
Workshop is geared for the absolute begginer

This workshop will focus on learning to see the WHOLE, learning to do MORE with LESS, clarifying the stages you need to go through in order to create a successful drawing, and learning to use what you already know more effectively.
There are a handful of essential ingredients for creating a competent drawing. However, you do not need to master each step before you can complete a beautiful piece of art.
What you do need is 1) the ability to see broadly 2) an awareness of the important skill sets and 3) an effective approach to layering them together. Many approaches work but there are some fundamental principles that are necessary to work with.
Gesture & Proportion Large value relationships
Flat shapes and angles Rendering the form
Block-in and basic form structure SEEING THE WHOLE
This class will be fun! We are not going to develop any one skill set to a high level. Instead we are going to cover the basics, get up to speed in the areas that are underdeveloped and have some fun learning how to make beautiful drawings. You can spend the rest of your life practicing the parts. I want to get you informed, confident, aware of what you need to work on, and GETTING THE ART IN YOUR HEAD ONTO YOUR PAPER.
This workshop will give you a good basis for continued studies in anatomy, rendering, portraiture and figure painting.
During class we will draw from the nude model. Poses for the first hour will be from 1 to 5 minutes in length to practice SEEING THE WHOLE. Then there will be a long pose to practice moving through the different stages of development. There will be a demonstration during each class as well as handouts and one-on-one instruction at your easel.
