BACAA Noah Buchanan Master Workshop in Paris 10 Days

Hours: 11:00 a.m-1:00p.m 2 museum visits per week.
Students will join Noah Buchanan in Paris, France to study the process of 17th-Century Figure Painting, or Indirect Painting, in the tradition of Van Dyck, Velasquez, Rembrandt and Ribera. Topics include tonal ground layers, Imprimatura/Maniera Lavata, Velatura, Overpainting, Glazing Techniques, as well as historical palettes.
During the 10-day studio sessions, students will work from a nude model to develop a figure painting through stages of preparatory drawing, underpainting layers, full color layers, and will achieve a moderate to high state of finish.
Instructor led visits to the Louvre and selected museums in Paris will provide students with a rare opportunity to observe the application of these techniques first hand in Old Master paintings, as well as to draw and sketch directly from these works in the museums.
Studio Sessions will meet in the late afternoon each weekday from June 26 - July 7. Museum visits will be scheduled for mid-day.

This workshop is geared for the independent artist and traveler. Housing, travel, and transportation arrangements are solely the responsibility of the student.
Location: Paris, France. Studio Facility: A local artist’s studio in the Northeast area of Paris known as Le Pre-A-Saint Gervais; address TBA.
