Figure Painting Workshop

Dates:
September 17/18, 2016
( Saturday - Sunday )
10:45-5:00 p.m
In this two day figure painting intensive, Che Smith will cover an array of crucial principles for creating a successful figure painting in the realist style. Che approaches teaching from a refreshing perspective, addressing all of the things an aspiring artist needs to know, but may not be aware that they are lacking. Through extremely straightforward demonstration and explanation of her painting process, Che takes her students from start to finish of a figure painting from life. Subjects that will be addressed include (but are not limited to) color theory, light science, proportion and anatomy, color mixing, proper use of materials, composition, etc.
During this workshop, students will enjoy a highly descriptive demo with plenty of space to ask questions, as well as time to paint their own figure paintings from life, with hands on guidance from Che.
Bio
Che Smith is an American painter based in Long Beach, California. She received her BFA from the Atlanta campus of the Savannah College of Art and Design and attended The Ryder School.
There is something very real and raw about the paintings of Che Smith. As a viewer it is readily apparent that she is not only able to capture the attributes of the people she paints but she is also able to express something more. There is something emanating from her work, a strong sense of the person’s essence or personality or aura or some combination thereof. It is this feeling that draws you in and makes you feel as though you’ve been given the opportunity to see something more personal. Her iconic style resonates throughout, making it easily recognizable while simultaneously presenting works that are wholly original.
