“Laboratory sessions will be organized in collaboration with the Division of Clinical Anatomy, Stanford University School of Medicine”

Successfully Offered in December 2013 and January 2014 and August 2014.

This course is being offered in accordance with an ongoing relationship between BACAA & Stanford University’s Laboratory of Clinical Anatomy.  The purpose is to offer motivated students of figurative art an intensive program of long posed life drawing, coupled with studies from dissected human cadavers and partial specimens. The program will begin with a drawing demonstration, covering structural drawing fundamentals and an overview of landmarks of the human figure. The afternoon of the first session will be held (as all afternoons will be) at Stanford University. The focus of the afternoon will be on the anatomical appearance of landmarks in prosections (dissected and preserved human parts) as well as planes of motion and how to draw from the cadaver. The second session will begin with a slide discussion on the pelvis, followed by life drawing and an afternoon Stanford’s laboratory, involving interpretations of pelvic structure.  The third session will deal with the thigh, beginning with a slide talk and continuing with life drawing and laboratory study.  Session four will introduce the region of the human leg as a form of aesthetic interest and include a slide discussion, life drawing and laboratory work.  The final session will bring the human foot into focus, first through slides, then figure drawing and, finally, by utilizing the cadaver.  Learning outcomes should include a profound appreciation of the intricacies and beauty of the lower figure.
