Figure Drawing in Graphite
In this workshop students will learn how to create more dynamic and lifelike figure drawings. Through demos, lectures, and practice, students will learn a clear process to navigate a figure drawing, aiming to take fear out of the process and replace it with a relaxed, focused attention that allows greater perception and understanding of the natural world. Concepts and techniques that will be covered will include dynamic and rhythmic gesture, accurate proportion and measuring, structural anatomy, and three-dimensional form.
Achieving a good beginning to a drawing is one of the most important skills to learn. The first day will be devoted to short poses, giving students multiple opportunities to practice the skill of beginning a drawing in a way that sets one up with a solid foundation for success. The next two days will allow students to develop these ideas in more depth with a longer drawing.
The first half of each day will explore these ideas through demonstration, lecture, and Q and A. In the second half, students will draw from the model and receive one- on-one critiques.
Cost:
1 single session $630
2 sessions $1200
4 sessions $2300

Mini-Comprehensive Atelier Registration
This workshop will be a comprehensive introduction to the world of oil painting, designed to follow Year 2 in a classical atelier education and to give artists a solid foundation of good working habits.
"This four-session curriculum spread over the course of a year will take students on a journey from the foundations and nuances of drawing all the way to full palette oil painting and color theory. Designed for all levels of students, it is a rare opportunity to participate in and learn the foundational skills, knowledge, and practices of a comprehensive and sequential classical atelier educational program.
Through demos, lectures, and practice, students will learn a clear process for navigating the drawing and painting process, with each course building upon previous lessons and segueing into the next."-Paul Rosiak
BIO:
Paul Rosiak studied drawing and painting at the four-year intensive Aristides Classical Atelier under Juliette Aristides. He has studied at Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, spending a year sculpting écorché to learn anatomy of the human form. He continued his study through workshops, studying both drawing and painting with artists such as Tony Ryder, Steven Assael, and Michael Grimaldi. Before studying art, Paul studied Philosophy and English at Claremont McKenna College and Mansfield College at Oxford University. In his final year at Gage Academy of Art, he won Best in Show for his painting Fall. He has had paintings and drawings exhibited at Maryhill Museum of Art, and has been featured in Beginning Drawing Atelier, Artists and Illustrators UK, Plein Air Magazine, and Southwest Art Magazine, where he was most recently featured as one of the top 21 Artists Under 31 to Collect. In his own work, one of his goals is “to find and convey the beauty and design in often-overlooked everyday things, and to affirm the dignity and value of human life and uniqueness of each individual person. Working from life is integral to this process, as the connection and focused attention of a human spirit in an age of speed, distraction, and the virtual is one of the things I wish to maintain and give to the viewer”. He has taught drawing and painting in private and group lessons for many years and strives to combine a strong passion for learning and teaching with a broad educational background to create a unique approach to help students navigate their artistic journey towards mastery.
