Still Life Painting French Floral
In this 4 day class will focus on painting the floral still life in oils in a manner inspired by the French 19th Century painter, Henri . This method will involve painting florals in a fairly direct manner, which is somewhat painterly and also atmospheric. Many artists can attest that flowers can be a daunting subject and we will try to make sense of the the beautiful forms which have fascinated and frustrated artists for centuries. Since flowers and plants tend to move from day to day and even hour to hour the students will draw and paint directly on the canvas with the brush only. The focus will be on capturing the essentials of the blooms and finishing areas wet in to wet. I will give frequent demonstrations, help and critique as we explore the unique nature of flowers and plants in paint.
Day 1 - Will consist of a short talk and slide presentation. The remainder of the day will be use to practice flower studies.
Day 2- Morning demonstration. Students will arrange their flowers in a vase and begin their painting.
Day 3- Morning demonstration. Continue working on floral painting.
Day 4- Short demonstration. Students will work towards finishing their painting on the final day.
Carlo graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2004 where he focused his studies in the methods and practices of traditional realism. Since his graduation, he has been a full-time working artist, winning several awards including a fellowship at the Hudson River school for Landscape in 2008, and winning 3rd place in Figurative Painting and a purchase prize at the 2012 Art Renewal Center Salon. While known primarily for his mastery in still life painting, he is accomplished in figurative and landscape painting as well. Carlo works in the natural northern light that fills his studio. He is intent on creating beautiful works which capture the myriad textures, colors and forms we find all around us. He regularly exhibits his work in galleries across the United States.
